What is BreakCAT?
BreakCAT is designed for Wildcat! SysOps who wishes to import their
file list's contents to the Wildcat! file database after a crash or simply to
re-index their files. It uses Michael Conley's FLOP (File List Output Program)
for input and output files to standard text files for WCFile to import to your
database.
Why use BreakCAT?
Since WCFile cannot import files in multiple areas with standard file
lists, the SysOp must put every file area into a separate file and import
every one by specifying the file area in WCFile. WCFile will take the pain of
breaking up the file list to multiple files.
How do I use BreakCAT?
You should use Michael Conley's FLOP program (information on that at
the end of this documentation). Set it to create a master list of all files
using single line format. Use MASTER.LST as an example in here. Set FLOP to
create MASTER.LST and you should have something like this in MASTER.LST :
+----------------+
| The Eclair BBS |
+----------------+
Listing of all files available as of 05/31/92
=============================================
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GIF Files
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Filename Size Description
AKINA.GIF 34k Akina Nakamori - Japanese Singer 320x200x265
AKO.GIF 95k AKO - Japanese Cartoon 640x480x16
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Windows
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Filename Size Description
NEWCLOCK.ZIP 31k A replacement for Win 3's clock
WINTEST.ZIP 106k Series of tests for Windows
etc, etc, etc....
Always keep a backup of this file in case your database crashes because you
can't create a file list from a crashed database. This is what this program
is for! To help re-create your crashed databse by using your file list backup!
But, there are other uses of this, of course.
Now, run BreakCAT! in any directory, but it is recommended it is ran in its
own directory because it creates a lot of area files.
C:\BREAKCAT> BREAKCAT C:\MASTER.LST
This will tell BreakCAT! to process C:\MASTER.LST. BreakCAT! will do its work.
BreakCAT will create files in the current directory under the names in this
format :
AREAx.TXT
Where x is the area number. The area number does not necessarily match the
ones you've created in MakeWild, it starts with 1 and goes to the next number
as it reaches another area.
Once the AREAx.TXT files are created, you can run WCFile to import it to the
database.
C:\WC30> WCFILE
Select [Add Files With Descriptions]. It'll ask for the description filename.
Enter the location of the first area file and AREA1.TXT, like this :
Description Filename? C:\BREAKCAT\AREA1.TXT
Then, set the arrows to match where the filenames are and the descriptions.
When it asks for "Areas Specified After File Group?", press "N" or no. Then,
it'll ask for the area number. If you know the area number that you defined
in MakeWild for this file area, enter it. If not, press the "List Options"
key and select it. The description of the file area as you defined in
MakeWild is located on top of the area file so you'll know what files are in
that area.
Set all the rest of the parameters, and press [F10] to start. It should start
working and when it's done, repeat the process until everything is done.

BETA TESTING
This is the beta testing version of BreakCAT!. Please let me know if
there's anything wrong with BreakCAT!. Though this is a beta testing version,
you may still distribute it freely. Thanks!
OTHER USES OF BREAKCAT!
There are often CD-Rom discs that come with a description file for the
CD files. This is a good way to import them.
FINDING FLOP
FLOP (File List Output Program) is a public domain software written by
Michael Conley of Charlatan's Cabin BBS in Los Angeles, California. It reads
your Wildcat! database and creates a file list from it. There are plenty of
options and it's powerful. FLOP can be found in The Charlatan's Cabin BBS at
(213) 654-7337. Michael Conley also writes many other popular programs for
Wildcat! such as TodayBBS and NetBull.
CONTACTING THE AUTHOR
If you like BreakCAT!, please send the author $10 to support him to
give technical support, create future updates for BreakCAT!, as well as create
other programs. Please make checks payable to Henry Ho.
